Bersatu No 2 warns of 'ROS action' over Wawasan Negara admission into PN

A Bersatu leader has warned that Perikatan Nasional’s acceptance of Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin’s “Parti Wawasan Negara” as a component member could risk action from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

In a statement, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu cited a purported letter from the ROS dated yesterday, which he claimed raised questions on several “incomplete” and “unsigned documents” submitted by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

Faizal claimed that ROS had requested PN to furnish the required information within seven days under Section 14(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

He said the ROS also reserved the right to defer consideration of PN’s leadership records until all outstanding matters were resolved.

“Bersatu representatives raised this matter during the emergency PN supreme council meeting last night and took the position that the meeting should be postponed based on the ROS feedback.

“However, the meeting proceeded nonetheless, and this may be contrary to the intention of ROS to ensure all party administrative and management affairs are conducted in accordance with the PN constitution and the Societies Act 1966,” he said.

Yesterday, PN chairperson Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar announced that the meeting had approved the applications of Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) and Pejuang to join PN as component parties.

“The meeting agreed to approve the applications of two parties to become new PN member parties,” he said.

PCM, originally founded under that name, has been taken over by Hamzah and “rebranded” as Parti Wawasan Negara.

Earlier today, Hamzah also confirmed that PCM’s special delegates meeting on Saturday had unanimously agreed to rebrand the party as Wawasan Negara. PCM former president Huan Cheng Guan was also named as one of Wawasan Negara’s vice-presidents.

Allegation of procedural flaws

However, Faizal claimed that PCM’s application to join PN was “procedurally flawed”.

He said the application to join PN was submitted by the party’s purported secretary-general, Saifuddin Abdullah, although official records showed the party’s current secretary-general for the 2026-2027 term was Yeo Kwee Kwang.

He also noted that the leadership lineup submitted to PN was for Parti Wawasan Negara, despite the application having been made under PCM’s name.

“Based on our checks as of yesterday, the changes to PCM’s leadership lineup and its proposed name change to Parti Wawasan Negara have yet to be approved by ROS.

“Using a party name that has not been approved by ROS is an offence under the Societies Act 1966,” he said.

Faizal said Bersatu regretted what it described as an attempt to rush through PCM’s admission without regard for the legal implications.

“As a founding party of PN, Bersatu will ensure that all PN affairs, administration, management, and activities are conducted in accordance with the PN constitution and in compliance with the Societies Act 1966 and regulations enforced by ROS,” he added. - Mkini
