The accused, aged between 17 and 51, claimed trial over alleged involvement in a riot near an electrical shop.

The accused, aged between 17 and 51, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan.
They are Neoh Zhi Ming, 17; Tan Hwa Yuan, 19; Yam Kit Lun, 21; Kong Wai Lun, 22; Wong Kai Yan, 24; Lim Eng Hoon, 24; T Kavilan, 25; Leong Chun Kit, 26; Tan Kai Hao, 30; Lim Zhen Huang, 31; Leow Mun Yee, 33; Teh Jin Huat, 40; and Wong Kui Yoong, 51.
They were charged, together with five others still at large, with taking part in a riot and being in possession of wooden sticks capable of causing injury during the riot.
The offence allegedly took place near an electrical shop in Jinjang Utara at about 3.27pm on June 11.
The charge was framed under Section 148 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, if found guilty.
The magistrate allowed bail of RM4,500 each to Neoh, Yam, and Hwa Yuan, with one surety each, while the remaining accused were each allowed bail of RM5,500 with one surety.
Counsel Mona Leonard Lubon represented Neoh, Teh, Zhen Huang, and Kai Hao, while Nur Ashiqeen Sultan appeared for the other nine accused.
The court fixed Aug 13 for mention. - FMT
