Cops record statements from drivers of pickup truck, car ‘racing’ on NSE

 A video recording, which went viral, showed the two vehicles speeding dangerously and weaving in and out of traffic from Jawi to Bukit Tambun.

Seberang Perai Selatan deputy police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar said the two drivers, both from Perak, had their statements taken at the district police headquarters yesterday.

Police have traced the two men seen in a video driving recklessly on the North-South Expressway from Jawi to Bukit Tambun in Penang.

Seberang Perai Selatan deputy police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar said the drivers of the pickup truck and a car, both aged 30, were traced yesterday.

The driver of the car, from Chemor, and the man in the pickup truck, from Kamunting, had their statements recorded at the district police headquarters later in the day.

“They were released on police bail. Further investigations are ongoing under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for reckless and dangerous driving),” Bernama reported him as saying.

Yesterday, Norazmi said a two-minute and 43-second video of the incident, which went viral, was uploaded to Facebook at 8.30pm on Monday.

It showed the two vehicles apparently racing, and weaving in and out of traffic, along the NSE from Jawi to Bukit Tambun. - FMT
