Refusal by eyewitnesses to turn up and give their statements of the alleged tear gas attack on the Tung Shin Hospital, has caused a delay in wrapping up the investigation, into the July 9 incident.
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the witnesses comprised doctors, nurses and patients at the hospital but they had refused to come forward and assist investigations.
"I have told the Health Ministry secretary-general Kamarul Zaman Md Isat to speed up the investigation.
"However, I was informed that some of the witnesses did not turn up during the investigation," he told reporters at Prime Minister Najib Razak's Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House in Seri Perdana here today.
Liow said the report of the investigation would be submitted to the cabinet.
He said two teams, one from the ministry and one from the police, was set up to probe the allegation.
Last month, the ministry had set up a high-level committee of enquiry to investigate claims that police, who were handling the Bersih illegal rally, had fired tear gas into the hospital compound.
