Bekir's ex-wife files RM121mil claim for child support

Shahnaz A Majid has filed another RM121 million claim against her former husband Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the son of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

NONEThe case will come up in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on Jan 10.

Shahnaz (left)filed her claim at the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on Nov 30, following Mahmud Abu Bekir's alleged failure to pay maintenance for their 18-year-old son, Raden Murya Abdul Taib Mahmud, since their divorce.

The couple was married on Jan 9, 1992, but divorced on May 11 last year.

In her statement of claim, Shahnaz, 49, said Mahmud Abu Bekir had not been paying any maintenance for their son who is now studying abroad.

NONEShe also said that Mahmud Abu Bekir(right), also 49, is is capable of paying the claim.

This is because he is worth in excess of RM1 billion, that he is a director in 115 companies, and holds shares in 50 companies, excluding public-listed companies.

“I maintain that the child is still a dependent of my former husband,” she said.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court had not made any ruling on the maintenance of the child when custody was awarded to Shahnaz.

Under Syarak laws, she said, the father has priority in providing for a child who, in this case, is still a student.

Shahnaz, the elder singer of jazz queen Sheila Majid, has included a RM60 million terrace house in London and an education trust fund of RM40 million in her total claim.

Other items are tuition fees in the UK amounting to RM315,000, air fare of RM300,000 (for travel six times a year), transportation (RM20,250), books (RM10,000), pocket money (RM72,000), two Aston Martin cars (one in UK and another in Malaysia, at RM5.5 million).

She is also seeking medical insurance (RM5 million), clothing and attire worth RM12,000 and monthly pocket money for two years totaling RM72,000.

Two earlier claims

Last year, Shahnaz had filed separate claims for her share of jointmatrimonial assets and gifts amounting to RM400 million.

The hearing of these claims will resume on Dec 24, with CIMB bank officers expected to testify.

Mahmud Abu Bekir reportedly has 111 bank accounts worth about RM700 million.

Shahnaz has testified that he had spent in excess of RM780,000 on a single charge card alone for the first six months of this year.
