GOOD MOVE AMBIGA! Bersih to elect NEW leaders on Nov 30

GOOD MOVE AMBIGA! Bersih to elect NEW leaders on Nov 30
Electoral reform movement Bersih will soon see a new leadership lineup, two years after its pioneers launched it.
When contacted, Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah confirmed that an election will be held on Nov 30.
"The nomination process from among the NGOs in Bersih is already done, the results will be announced soon," she told Malaysiakini.
However, Maria declined to reveal details about the nomination or her own candidacy, stating that they will be made public on Monday.
The candidates vying for five national positions and six regional posts are expected to be revealed that day.
The positions up for contest, among others, include the new Bersih chairperson, deputy chairperson and treasurer.
A coalition of NGOs and political parties, Bersih first came into prominence in 2007 when it organised its first major rally in the streets of Kuala Lumpur, pushing for free and fair elections.
However, in 2011, it was re-launched under the leadership of Ambiga Sreenevasan , morphing into a purely civil society initiative.
Since then, it had put together two more rallies for electoral reform in 2011 and 2012.
Bersih also formed a People's Tribunal to look into allegation of fraud in the 13th general election.
Ambiga had said that she intended to step down after the tribunal had completed its work, which it did in September.
