Govt seeks to suspend Surendran from Parliament for 6 months

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): The government will be moving a motion to suspend Padang Serai PKR MP N Surendran for six months for allegedly accusing Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia of stating false facts on the partial demolition of a century-old temple.
According to the notice of the motion, placed on the desk of all MPs at 5pm today and sighted by reporters, Surendran had at a press conference yesterday "accused" the speaker of presenting facts that are "complete and utter lies" in relation to the demolition.
"The Padang Serai member of parliament also accused the speaker of being biased," read the notice.
A minister in the Prime Minister's Department is expected to push for the motion to be debated and decided tomorrow, said Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee.
Surendran is the first to be recommended for suspension since Parliament started its session after the 13th General Election.
"It's a witch-hunt," said Klang DAP MP Charles Santiago, when approached for comments.
Surendran gave the press conference after his urgent motion to discuss the demolition of the Golden Triangle Sri Muneswarar Kaliyaman Temple extension during the weekend was rejected.
Peeved over Pandikar's grounds in denying the urgent motion, Surendran had argued with the speaker which subsequently led to his expulsion from the Dewan Rakyat for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, in an immediate response to the government's motion to suspend him, Surendran said it was "unjustified, absurd and completely over the top motion" to stifle his fair demand.
"Is the speaker above criticism? This is a ridiculous and extreme motion when I have committed no other offence except to criticise the speaker," said Surendran.
"A motion to suspend me for six months just for saying that the speaker was bias and repeating statements by the minister which was false...this is an over the top reaction," he told fz.com when contacted.
"If they think that I will stop standing up for the people just because of this proposed motion, all I can say is that they have got me wrong,
"I will not stop and this motion will not make me stop," he reiterated.
