KOTA KINABALU - A Taiwanese tourist who was kidnapped by a group of armed men from an island resort off Semporna may have been taken to the Philippines.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said there was a possibility as the nearest island across the border, Pulau Malamanuk, was about 16km away from Pulau Pom-Pom where the 58-year-old Taiwanese An Wei Chan was taken.
An's husband Lin Min Hsu, 57, was shot dead by the group at a chalet at about 1am today.
He was found lying on the floor with gunshot wounds to his chest and left rib by a team from the General Operations Force who responded after report of several shots fired was made by staff of the resort.
Four spent shells were also recovered from the scene.
Hamza said they have yet to find any evidence linking the group to armed millitants from southern Philippines.
