Jamil Khir's discount carnival "coincidence": DISGRACE for religious ministers to NOT tell the truth
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom had said the carnival offering basic necessities at huge discounted prices during BN’s recent campaign in the Sungai Limau by-election was just a coincidence.
The ‘explanation’ had triggered a question by PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu that likely put BN in a tight spot.
“If it was just a coincidence, then hold the sales carnival at other constituencies too,” Mat Sabu was quoted saying by Free Malaysia Today.
Mat Sabu said there are other places other than Sungai Limau that could benefit from such carnivals.
“Don’t just do it at places with by-election. In Baling, there are also poor people, go and have it there as well,” he chided.
As such, Mat Sabu said Jamil’s explanation was nothing more than a mockery.
During the Sungai Limau campaign, BN had organised a shopping carnival in Bukit Besar that attracted huge crowd that went after the heavily discounted items offered.
According to a report, sugar was sold at RM1.00 per kg, way below market price of RM2.84 per kg. It was also reported that a pack of 5kg rice was sold at RM5, as opposed to normal prices that ranges between RM18 and RM20.
Despite that, PAS had managed to survive the by-election where its candidate Mohd Azam Abdul Samat defeated BN’s Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim with a majority of 1,084 votes.
