YOURSAY 'Behind the facade of parliamentary democracy lies the ugly side of politics, where violence is outsourced and funded.'
'Umno-linked gangs preserve authoritarian state'
Swipenter: Umno is the mother of ‘taiko' of all the right-wing Malay NGOs. I have lost count of many of such kind of Malay NGOs, championing Malay this and Malay that. There are probably new ones springing up like lallang after a rainy day.
It is an unspoken fact that they are linked to Umno but now a comprehensive study proves it beyond doubt that Umno would not hesitate to unleash them on those who disagree with Umno and to manufacture trouble to justify their use of force against dissidents and opposition protestors.
Clever Voter: Behind the facade of parliamentary democracy lies the ugly side of politics, where violence in the form of threats, coercion, intimidation or physical assault are outsourced and funded.
Then you have the media propaganda to influence gullible citizens with lies. And of course, you have last line of defence - the judiciary and the police to keep 'law and order'. The only difference here is the legitimacy of the process.
Anonymous_4056: French researcher Sophie Lemiere, Malaysians should express our thanks to you for a well-researched report. How, we wish this report can reach those rural Malays so their eyes can be opened.
My family and I suffered at the hands of these Umno gangsters simply because the three of us wore Bersih T-shirts at the Ambiga Sreenavasan ceramah in Merlimau, Malacca, which was subsequently cancelled.
The repairs to my damaged vehicle cost more than RM2,000. Police reports were made and the matter reported to Suhakan but up to now nothing has happened.
Is this Allah-fearing nation, I have told Allah that I'll not forgive them. I have every confidence that Allah will take revenge for me in time.
This is certainly the mark of a Satanic regime. May Allah hears the cries of his people.

Real Truth: Malaysians were quite aware of the activities and the political agenda of these gangs. They align with the political party in power for favours.
Most of the cronies who benefit from Umno and BN assign these gangs to interrupt peaceful assemblies of the opposition or disrupt talks by prominent speakers deemed critical of government.
Avenger: When the truth is painful for them, when they are unable to reason and debate with others in a civilised manner, they take out their guns, machetes and sticks. It is far easier for them to beat up someone whom they disagree with.
Quigonbond: Sophie Lemiere is our new Malaysian darling when the likes of the White House has failed to stand up for democracy in Malaysia in the name of TPPA (Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement).
This is a perplexing problem that Pakatan Rakyat may not have the ability to overcome. All Malaysians who reject BN must work together to develop a network to prevent people from joining these gangs as it is not in the best political interest of the police and BN to curb these gangs.
We need to beef up social support networks integrated with private sector employment to wean these members away from gang activities, depriving Umno-BN the ability to cordon roads, disturb peaceful assemblies, threaten violence when purported racial/religious supremacy is challenged in debates.
ThisLandIsMine: The Chinese were the ones who started gangsterism in times before Malaya. Remember the Ghee Hin and Hai San? How did the Chinese manage to control the real and underworld economy of yesteryears and now if not for their gangsters?
Sleepy: Sophie Lemiere's PhD research is not the issue here, don't deflect. The issue is: Are Malaysians (both Malays and non-Malays) losing their democratic/constitutional rights by the actions of a few gangsters.
Anonymous #19098644: There are 10,000 Special Branch police and yet these gangs have proliferated, expanded and thrived under the implicit protection of BN politicians.
Instead the Special Branch are used to monitor and harass the legitimate opposition. The result is a crime wave and a demoralised police force whose credibility and professionalism have been undermined by the Umno gang in power.
Lim Chong Leong: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi alreadyadmitted to being part of the Tiga Line gang by referring to them as "we".
And who are those linked to the pirate VCD trade that they got their president's tape sold at pasar malam?
SpongeBob: Soon the Umno-led government will pass a legislation to make this gangster group (Tiga Line) a legal entity.
A special remuneration will be allocated under Prime Minister's Department. This group will be given special and ‘mission impossible' tasks to accomplish.
Onyourtoes: The Malays under siege again - this time by France, Singapore and this liberated infidel woman. - Malaysiakini
