'Wee's comment on Allah issue irresponsible'

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong's disagreement with the decree of the Sultan of Selangor banning the use of the word 'Allah' by non-Muslims has been "truly irresponsible of a BN component party member", says Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun.

Describing Wee as not being sensitive to the issue, Khairul Azwan said the Selangor Sultan's decree to his subjects was based on the Court of Appeal ruling last month disallowing Catholic publication The Herald from using the word Allah in its Bahasa Malaysia version.

NONE"There is no reason for a citizen not to abide to what the sultan decreed as he is the head of the Islamic religion in the state. Who is Wee to question the Sultan's decree?" Khairul Azwan, who won his post in the recently concluded Umno elections, asked in a statement.

"As a leader who questioned the decree, Wee is seen as tarnishing the party and shows that he is not sensitive and mature. As a leader, he should find ways to lead a path of harmony and unity and not issue blind statements that result in arguments," he added.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Nov 14 issued a decree that the Bahasa Malaysia versions of the Bible and The Herald stop using the word Allah, specifically in Selangor.

The ruler also urged the people to abide by the Selangor Fatwa Council's ban on the use of the term by non-Muslims.

Wee was reported in several media as saying that it should be all right for Christians to be allowed to use the word, and called on the government to honour the 10-point solution made in 2011 for the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

Under the solution, the Bible in Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia can be imported and printed in the country.

There have been calls for Selangor to clarify its stand on the Allah issue following the sultan's decree.
