Palanivel intervention urged over Seaport school

"What is so difficult for Palanivel to tell and convince the cabinet that the relocation controversy can be easily resolved by a win-win formula.

"(That is) to keep the Seaport Tamil school at its original site and allowing the new building at Kampung Lindungan to be opened as an additional school," said DAP's Ipoh Barat MP M Kula Segaran (left).

The Selangor Education Department had instructed students to move to a new school in Kampung Lindungan some 4km away on the premise the original school site is owned by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

However, although the Selangor government, which owns PKNS, said it was prepared to gazette the said land for the school, federal authorities are insisting on the move.

Kula said it was "unfortunate" that the Selangor Education Department still did not understand about adopting community-friendly policies despite a similar tussle with SJK(C) Damansara in 2001.

"If the BN government is not prepared to adopt the win-win formula, I call on the Indian community to support the struggle to retain the original Seaport Tamil school.

"If the Save SJK(C) Damansara Campaign could succeed with the support from the people, the efforts to retain Seaport Tamil school at its original site too can succeed with public support," he said.
