Man who ATTACKED NUNS still on the loose

SEREMBAN - The assailant who brutally assaulted two nuns at a church here on Wednesday remains on the loose as police investigators attempt to trace him with recordings from a close-circuit cameras (CCTV) installed in the area.

The special task force that was formed to hunt down the assailant is yet to see any credible witness come forward to assist in the probe but police are hoping that the CCTV footages may shed some light into the case - although the two main CCTVs of the 13 installed in the vicinity were unserviceable at the time.

The two nuns, Sister Mary-Rose, 79, and Sister Juliana Lim, 69, of the Holy Infant Jesus Convent were severely wounded when they were viciously attacked with a crash helmet and robbed early on Wednesday in the compound of the Church of The Visitation on Jalan Yam Tuan here.

Seremban police chief ACP Zainal Abu said today police are in the midst of gathering clues and was hopeful the case would progress positively.

"We are looking at some aspects of the case which I am unable to reveal for now and it is too early to say if we have a positive lead.

"What we know for sure is that is was a robbery and there are no other hidden elements to the motive of the attack," he told theSun.

He said Juliana was still reported to be in critical condition at the Seremban hospital while Mary-Rose was recovering from her injuries.

Police who managed to interview Mary-Rose after she recovered from the trauma of her ordeal on Thursday learnt that a sole attacker of average height who wore a full face helmet had struck both women on their heads with a spare helmet that he had brought along before escaping with a handbag containing a few ringgit and a mobile phone belonging to one of them.

The heinous attack on the nuns drew condemnation from various parties including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak. -Sundaily
