KUCHING: Dayak parents in Betong who have children studying at MRSM Betong are taking issue with the institution for not allowing their children to keep their Bibles at their hostel in the boarding school.
They are also unhappy that male children are being forced to wear songkoks on grounds that it is part of the dress code.
“Many parents have approached me and claim that all this is part of a devious attempt to convert their children to Islam,” said DAP Sarawak Vice-Chairman Leon Jimat Donald.
He added that he would be writing to the Education Minister regarding this issue “if the complaints turn out to be true”.
He also urged teachers at MRSM Betong to “stop these covert conversion tactics”.
Exclaiming, “This was Sarawak”, Leon added, “and such reckless covert actions do not bode well for the citizens of this State”.
