PR using PAC as political ploy, say BN reps

Shamsudin insists that the Selangor PAC membership does not reflect a balanced or fair decision.
Samsuddin-Lias-Sungai-burongSHAH ALAM: The Selangor government’s decision to retain the composition of the membership of the Selangor Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will not reflect a decision which is balanced and fair in matters involving public interests, said former state opposition leader Mohd Shamsudin Lias.
He said the Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) viewed the statement made by Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali on Sunday as mere political rhetoric to conceal the real issue behind the appointment of Selangor PAC members.
Shamsudin said BN assemblymen in Selangor were of the opinion that PAC membership did not show elements of democracy, as proclaimed by the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) all this while.
“BN believes the majority of the people in Selangor understand the true motive behind PR’s game of making the issue of the state’s PAC membership a political model to show that they practise fairness and transparency in governance by involving BN reps in several State Assembly committees by offering certain facilities,” he said in a statement in Shah Alam, Monday.
Shamsudin, who is also Sungai Burong state assemblyman, stressed that Selangor BN would continue to refuse being in the Selangor PAC for the interest of the public, and did not want to fall into PR’s trap, which was using the so-called concept of democracy to achieve their political ambitions.
On December 4, the Selangor State Assembly amended the standing order requiring the opposition leader to be appointed as PAC chairman, and following the decision, Shamsudin resigned as the state’s opposition leader because he refused to accept the position, claiming that the PAC was monopolised by PR state assemblymen and it was seen to be more of a political ploy.
