YOURSAY ‘AFP should be ashamed for accusing Mara of committing a crime.’
Cops clear Mara of CBT in Aussie land deal
CQ Muar: One must congratulate inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar for his expertise and efficiency.
As in this example of Mara's controversial purchases in Melbourne - that he has impressively concluded the investigation with such lightning speed - was amazing and dumbfounding, to say the least.
He has just elevated himself as the super IGP of all time.
The Observer: Isn't it the job of the police to investigate and gather evidence? Aren't they supposed to submit an investigation paper to the attorney-general (AG) who then decides whether there is a case to prosecute?
Why have they taken over the role of the AG in deciding that no criminal breach of trust (CBT) was involved the Mara purchases?
They have to answer whether they have interviewed all those involved in Malaysia and Australia in view of this speedy decision to close the case.
Can the police not conduct their own separate investigations independent of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)?
Dont Just Talk: The vendor has admitted in sworn statement that the purchased price for the Melbourne property was inflated from A$17.8 million to A$22.5 million, and that this is not a criminal breach of trust but falls under the concept of ‘willing buyer and willing seller’.
In this case, the seller did not lose financially and the generous Mara top guns, using taxpayers’ money, paid an additional sum of A$4.7 million, which was later resolved through false invoices under the ‘lu tolong gua, gua tolong lu’ (you help me, I help you) concept.
Sabahan: Even after a sworn testimony that the deal was crooked, our first world police force declared that everything was above board. How can we teach our children to tell the truth and trust the Malaysian police?
No BS: The Australian police should indeed be ashamed for accusing Mara of committing a crime. They do not understand the culture of Malaysia - spreading wealth by whatever means is not a crime as long as it goes to the right parties.
They should come and learn from our police. And their jails would not be so crowded.
Headhunter: Yes, I'm impressed. An expert forensic investigation would probably take at least six months to a year to follow all the leads scattered over a few countries but our police can do it in just a few days.
Anonymous_1408265047: The Australian police have been investigating the very obvious fraud for over a month and have not yet completed their task. The IGP has been investigating over the weekend and has since cleared everyone of CBT.
What brilliant police work. It is like something straight out of Marvel Comics. Well done, IGP.
Cantabrigian: And yes, PDRM also did not find any element of murder, sodomy and rape in the Mara case as well.
Just because there is no criminal breach of trust does not mean the case has no element of corruption, abuse of power and misappropriation of fund. Are you sure you are not a 'barua' of Umno-BN?
Baiyuensheng: CBT - Whoever, being in any manner entrusted with property, or with any dominion over property either solely or jointly with any other person dishonestly misappropriates, or converts to his own use, that property, or dishonestly uses or disposes of that property in violation of any direction of law prescribing the mode in which such trust is to be discharged, or of any legal contract, express or implied, which he has made touching the discharge of such trust, or wilfully suffers any other person so to do, commits “criminal breach of trust”.
Fairnsquare: The IGP has announced no CBT was committed and he based this from his investigation. He did not say that the transaction was free of crime.
Rightfully, he has to hand it over to MACC to conduct the investigation. Let us not jump to conclusions and make unnecessary damaging statements. We should wait for the outcome. Let us not just condemn prematurely.
Opah: Several years ago, our defence minister bought two submarines and paid RM700 million to a shelf company in Hong Kong for "consultancy" services.
The Malaysian government declared that the payment was legal and did not involve any wrongdoing.
The same mechanism was used by Mara so it is no surprise at all that our IGP has come to the same conclusion. He has learned from his master.
Oh Ya?: Khalid should be named the best IGP. He puts Sherlock Holmes to shame with his lighting speed in exonerating the ruling elite of alleged crimes.
He can tell with one phone call to the suspect that he/she has committed no wrong, just as he had exonerated his brother.
On the other hand, one tweet from him, personalities such as Tian Chua, A Samad Said, Nurul Izzah would be arrested at midnight and detained over the weekend for all sorts of crimes short of treason.
Vent: But frankly did anyone expect anything else from the chief honcho of police in our land of endless possibilities?
And is there any point to "any further investigation" by the wimps of MACC?
IGP Khalid denies absolving Mara of CBT
TA: I think the best answer for the IGP to give is: "We are still investigating."
Ib: One good way of demonstrating incompetency is the inability to see the obvious. And this is shown again and again by the current administration. The rakyat can only cringe in shame at the quality of the current leaders, I suppose.
Whatsup: One can't be so blatantly biased and having both eyes shut, especially when holding such a position. Investors seek to pay lower than the asking price, not ask and pay one-third higher. -Mkini
