"There was nothing more for him to do here," lawyer Americk Sidhu told The Malaysian Insider.
"Furthermore, I do not want anything that happened to PI Bala to befall Charles."
Although he did not elaborate, Americk was referring to P. Balasubramaniam, a private investigator and key witness in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial, who died of a heart attack on March 15, 2013, just weeks after his return from a five-year forced exile in India.

Charles, 52, left for Atlanta, United States on Wednesday after holding a press conference at Americk's office in Kuala Lumpur, where he had said that Kevin's murder was allegedly linked to a charge sheet the deputy public prosecutor was preparing against a "high-ranking government official".

"After that plan was scuppered by another brother (Datuk Richard) there was no reason for Charles to remain in Malaysia," Americk told The Malaysian Insider.
Americk said Malaysian police would have to get in touch with Charles in the US if they wanted to interview him over the contents of the SD.
Americk also said he was contacted by an officer from the Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman yesterday, asking him for assistance in the investigation following Charles' SD.

"I am prepared to extend my cooperation to the police," he said, adding that a suitable time would be picked to conduct the interview.
Charles told a packed press conference that Kevin had confided in him that he was preparing the charge sheet, while he was in the Attorney-General's Chambers.

He also alleged that his brother, Richard was in cahoots with "someone" and that was why he (Richard) had taken Kevin's body from the mortuary.
Charles had also hit out at the Attorney-General's Chambers for allegedly hoodwinking him as they had initially consented to the second post-mortem but later asked him to get a court order instead.
He also revealed that he was in possession of a pen-drive Kevin had sent to him by courier before he died.
"The content of this pen-drive clearly and unequivocally reveal the investigations Kevin had been tasked with just before his untimely death which implicates certain personalities who currently walk the corridors of power in Malaysia," Charles had said.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali had dismissed the contents of the SD while Inspector-General of Police Tan Khalid Abu Bakar had said Charles should share with police the contents of the pen-drive.
Six men have been charged with Kevin's murder, while pathologist Dr R. Kunasegaran has been charged with abetment.
Kevin's body was found in a cement-filled steel drum in a swamp in Taman Subang Mewah in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, 12 days after his abduction on September 4.
