Maicci ready to be probed on 'BN polls funding' claim

The Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Maicci) has pledged its full cooperation for any investigation into allegations that it re-channelled a RM2 million grant it received into the BN's 13th general election campaign.
As far as the 65-year-old organisation is concerned, it 'has nothing to hide' on the matter, Maicci secretary-general AT Kumarajah told Malaysiakini yesterday.
“We do not want our integrity to be in doubt. If there are questions that must be answered, we are prepared to answer them in the right forum.
"We will cooperate with the authorities. We have nothing to hide," Kumarajah said.
Kumarajah was responding to PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, who said a police report would be lodged today against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Maicci president Kenneth Eswaran and (photo) former Maicci secretary-general M Davendra for alleged criminal breach of trust.
At a press conference at the PKR headquarters yesterday, Rafizi revealed several payment vouchers that he claimed detailed how the BN benefited from RM2 million in taxpayers' money to fund its 13th general election (GE13) campaign.
Among others, Rafizi said, payments were made by the Maicci for various BN-linked GE13 campaign events between March 29, and May 29, 2013.
The 13th general election was held on May 5, 2013.
'Never caught fire'
Rafizi said the Finance Ministry had in 2013 approved the RM2 million amount as a 'donation grant' to Maicci.
Kumarajah said the allegations made by Rafizi were 'not new' and had never gained much traction among Maicci members.
“The same allegations were brought up during the last Maicc elections in June last year. But it never ‘caught fire’ or gained much traction.
“If somebody were to bring it up again officially, we will respond,” said Kumarajah, who added that he was not familiar with the specific details of the alleged incidents as these had occurred prior to his term in office.
Rafizi had also revealed minutes of a Maicc meeting dated May 11, 2013, which recorded its president Kenneth Eswaran allegedly admitting to obtaining the 'donation grant' and for it to be used for BN's general election expenses. -Mkini
