Lembaga Tabung Haji will pay a dividend of five percent to depositors for 2015, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said.
The 2015 dividend is five percent while a bonus of three percent is paid to those who have not performed the haj, he said at the Tabung Haji headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
The pilgrimage fund paid a dividend of 6.25 percent and a bonus of two percent for the 2014 financial year.
The announcement comes after speculation that the fund would have difficulty paying dividends due to slipping reserves.
Jamil said the fund made RM3.53 billion in profits from its investments but is not distributing the entire sum following Bank Negara's advice.
He said the fund had decided to retain RM300 million of its profits.
BNM had cautioned the fund over slipping reserves, which it said could undermine the fund's ability to pay dividends and also trigger mass withdrawals.
