The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has decreed that the people of the state must comply with the provisions of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) (Amendment) Enactment 2016.
The ruler issued the decree after chairing the 143rd meeting of the Selangor Royal Council on May 30, said council secretary Hanafisah Jais in a statement today.
“The sultan decreed that the people of the state should comply with the restrictions contained in the enactment to prevent being subjected to the heavier penalties enforced by the authorities.“The sultan wants the people to adhere to every law in the country to avert problems so that the people of all races can live in peace and harmony,” he said.

The Selangor state assembly had approved on April 1 amendments to the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 1962 to avert acts and use of awards without the recognition of the Sultan of Selangor.
Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, when tabling the amendments, had said that the penalty of a RM1,000 fine was small for improper use of the awards and medals bestowed by the sultan.
He said the appropriate penalty, as provided for by the amendments, was a fine of between RM100,000 and RM200,000 or a jail term of up to three years.
