The police should be investigating the 1MDB scandal instead of former ministers such as Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man
"PAS advises the police not to waste their time and energy to question Husni, who has been called to Bukit Aman police headquarters today.
"Instead, the police should immediately investigate the 1MDB case that has long been delayed," said Tuan Ibrahim in a statement today.
The police have called Husni, who was the former second finance minister when the 1MDB scandal first escalated, for questioning.
This follows complaints that Husni may have leaked purported cabinet secrets related to the debt-ridden Finance Ministry sovereign fund 1MDB, during his debate in Parliament last week.
Tuan Ibrahim praised Husni for raising the 1MDB issue in Parliament after failing to get convincing answers while he was in cabinet.
He said instead of probing Husni for what he raised in the House, the authorities should instead follow up on the questions the former minister had raised.
These, said Tuan Ibrahim, include the reason for placing RM16 billion in the British Virgin Islands firm Aabar PJS Limited, which has been proven to have no relations to 1MDB's business partner International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).
"Why has no action been taken against 1MDB's management for placing the money into the wrong company, and why has there been none against the two owners (of Aabar BVI) for this embezzlement of funds?" he asked.
If ex-minister can't ask...
Tuan Ibrahim said if someone of Husni's former position as the second finance minister who had worked closely with Prime Minister Najib Razak, had no right to raise questions in Parliament, "then what more the ordinary people who want to see the truth behind the 1MDB issue exposed?"
"If Husni is probed, then the entire cabinet must also be probed - were they deliberately misleading the people on 1MDB?" asked the PAS deputy.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched its largest kleptocracy crackdown in history, in a series of suits to recover assets it claims had been procured using funds embezzled from 1MDB.
However debate on the matter in Parliament was stymied when speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said it would be sub judice to raise it in the House. -Mkini
