LABIS: The family of a 16-year-old girl, who reportedly went missing when attending school orientation a week ago, is seeking the public's help to locate the student.

The girl's uncle Md Khirmi Mohd Sharif, 43, said Nur Aleeyana Azizi (pix) fondly known as Alia, allegedly disappeared in school on Dec 29 last year.
She was supposed to register herself for a new schooling year and attend an orientation session.
"That morning Alia walked to her friend's house nearby her home at Kampung Tenang here before the friend's brother sent the both of them to school at around 6.45am.
"Her friend realised that she had gone missing when the teachers called out her name while segregating the students into their new classes," he said when contacted here on Thursday.
He said the family searched for her, but failed to gain information of her whereabouts.
"Alia accidentally left her mobile phone in my home the night before she disappeared but she has not contacted her family since then," he added.
Md Khirmi, however, said a woman, who identified herself as the mother of Alia's friend in Gelang Patah, Johor Baru, claimed that the girl had stayed in her house between Dec 29 and Jan 2.
"She called Alia's mobile phone on Jan 3 looking for her and when I queried, she told me that Alia had visited her daughter on the day she went missing and stayed with them until Jan 2.
"She thought that Alia had returned home and called to check on her," he said, adding that Alia had never taken off on her own in the past.
Md Khirmi said that Alia's mother, who suffers from mild depression, has been worried sick for her daughter, and hopes for her safe return.
Labis MP Datuk Chua Tee Yong urged members of the public to keep a lookout for Alia.
He also urged those with any information on her whereabouts to contact the police.
District deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Yusuf Unis confirmed the case and said police were investigating the matter.
