Hasan shoots down PKR man's claims over Malay reserve land

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Hasan Arifin again shot down Semambu assemblyperson Lee Chean Chung's claims about his involvement in the cancellation of part of Tok Sira Malay reserve land status in Kuantan.
Lee had previously raised concerns about the land, where he alleged that Hasan earned at least RM321,000 after purchasing the land at far below market value.
"I have never been investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding this matter, even though a report was lodged by PKR Kuantan in 2012 and another one by you in June 2016," Hasan said, in a letter sent to Lee which was dated Jan 24, 2017.
Lee had posted pictures of the letter on Facebook, calling it a "love letter in conjunction with Chinese New Year".
In the letter, Hasan reiterated that when he bought the land, he was not a board member of either the Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) or its subsidiary Pasdec, which was the company he purchased the land from.
He also said that he was no longer the Pahang deputy menteri besar when he was offered the land by Pasdec, nor was he a state executive councillor.
"The land which was offered to me was not a Malay reserve land," he said.
Lee previously revealed that parts of the Tok Sira Malay reserve land had its reserve land status cancelled and that this cancellation was upon the request of Pasdec, a private firm.
He claimed that though the estimated value of the land was RM213,000, Hasan purchased it from Pasdec for RM76,499 and later sold it to an individual for RM397,683.
"Hasan had bought the land for 61 percent below market value," he alleged then.
Hasan refuted this, saying that the government had always had a policy of selling houses by the State Government Economic Corporations at a discounted price to civil servants.

"A strange and peculiar thing is that only 3.5 acres have the Malay reserve land status, while the entire Tok Sira area and its surroundings is not Malay reserve land," he also said.
He then informed Lee that his lawyers are in the process of taking legal actions.
Hasan had previously threatened Lee with a lawsuit on June 24, 2016, demanding that he apologise within 14 days for his claims.
Lee had refused to apologise, after discussing the matter with his lawyer.- Mkini
