PM Najib vows to address RM50m funding for Chinese primary schools

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has promised to resolve the Chinese primary school funding issue as soon as possible.
This was revealed by MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who together with MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong, had met Najib, according to a Sin Chew Daily report.
Prior to that, they had also met Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid before the cabinet meeting.
According to the report, Liow said they emphasised to the prime minister that the issue of RM50 million grant for Chinese primary school should immediately be resolved.
“More importantly, we asked Najib to swiftly address the funding issue for national type secondary school not only for 2016 but also 2017 as they were not mentioned in the 2017 Budget,” he said.
Liow was quoted as saying that Najib responded positively to the requests.
Chinese primary schools had complained that the RM50 million grant allocated to them had yet to arrive.
It was later revealed by Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon that MCA had rejected the funding as the Education Ministry only provided partial funds.
Chong, who is also MCA Youth chief, insisted that Chinese primary schools should receive the complete RM50 million grant as promised.
Wee later also said that the education minister had conveyed to Najib a request for additional funding so that it will have the funds to fulfil the RM50 million grant to Chinese primary schools.- Mkini
