Seputeh MP Teresa Kok denies allegation that DAP and PKR used the PAS president as the scapegoat in their game of 'dirty politics'.
PETALING JAYA: PAS Ulama information chief Khairuddin Aman Razali has resorted to distorting the facts in his eagerness to defend his party president Abdul Hadi Awang’s role in the break up of Pakatan Rakyat (PR), says DAP’s Teresa Kok.
The DAP vice-chairperson said Khairuddin and any PAS leader who wished to defend Hadi’s part in the falling-out of parties in the former opposition coalition should first find out the truth about Hadi’s “dictatorial” behaviour and non-adherence to the coalition’s consensus policy.
Khairuddin told NST Online yesterday that the Selangor leadership crisis could have been averted if only DAP and PKR had adhered to the consensus system.
He also accused the two parties of dividing PR and using the PAS president as the scapegoat in their game of “dirty politics”.
“From Khairuddin’s statement, it is likely he was not told the truth about what transpired at the PR presidential council meetings; … that the ‘consensus’ (in dispute) was the appointment of PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah as Selangor menteri besar.
“A fact that cannot be distorted is that PAS made a U-turn on the candidacy of the PKR president for Selangor menteri besar.
“The consensus was to submit a sole candidate for Selangor menteri besar – Wan Azizah – to the Selangor palace, which was subsequently and ultimately vetoed by Hadi.
“That was a consensus decision of PR which ought to have been respected by the coalition members, but Hadi, who was not present at the meeting, chose to veto it,” said Kok in a statement today.
In that particular PR presidential council meeting, PAS was represented by its deputy president Mohd Sabu and secretary-general Mustafa Ali, she said.
Kok said Hadi was the “sole and incontestable culprit” responsible for the PR break-up.
“How could Khairuddin make such an irresponsible comment, falsely asserting that DAP and PKR were the ones causing the break-up of PR when it is so clear that Hadi was the main cause?
“The fact of the matter, as detailed above, shows that the break-up was due to none other than Hadi’s dictatorial behaviour and his utter failure to respect the PR common policy framework.
“Resorting to fact distortion will win no argument and will not convince anyone.” -FMT
