Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today expressed disappointment with the “lackadaisical” attitude of the Attorney-General's Chambers in the case of his son allegedly outraging the modesty of his female classmate, six years ago.
Lim told a press conference today that he was willing to go to court to appear as a witness in the case.
Earlier, two policemen, who the chief minister said were acting on the orders of the AG's Chambers, had met Lim to ask him whether he still wanted to proceed with the case.
"They (the policemen) were told to ask me if I had made a police report (against the allegations). I told them I did it based on advise by the police.
"Why ask the police to ask me after six years, if I want to proceed with the case?
"In Kim Jong-nam's murder case, did you ask the family if they want to proceed with the case?" Lim said, referring to the elder half-brother of North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un who was assassinated at KLIA2 on Feb 13.
Lim's son, who was 15 when the allegations surfaced six years ago, was accused of outraging the modesty of a female classmate.
The claim was published in a blog and even featured the photo of a girl, who was later revealed to be Hong-Kong based British chess master Anya Corke.
Corke has denied knowing Lim or his son, and said she had never been to Penang.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the case was still being investigated, six years on.
This despite no one having come forward to confirm the incident having happened, or decrying molest.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said the malicious slander against his son was still being played up in the social media.
"If this case involved BN leaders, anyone who insulted them would have been charged or taken to court," he lamented.
The police have met him about three times, thus far, regarding the case, Lim added.
Only now, they were asking him whether he wanted to proceed with the case, he charged.
"Why ask after six years? Is this the effectiveness of the AG's Chambers?"
"Worried son will do silly things"
Lim then expressed concern of the impact the allegations had on his son, including refusing to go to school.
"He was not even 16, and they (Lim's opponents) want to bully a child, if they wanted to attack me, just come for me, why attack an innocent child?" he asked.
He said he was worried his son may resort to doing "silly things", like some children do when they are stressed.
"This is the type of dirty tactic that pro-BN people do, it is barbaric."- Mkini
