Newly minted Football Association of Malaysia president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's second major policy decision has been to adopt "Harimau Malaya" as name for the national team.
According to FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin, many fans had requested FAM to do so.
"The national team will reuse the 'Harimau Malaya' name in accordance with its original name since its formation.
"It is also in line with the request of many fans to reuse the name based on various historic moments created by the national team during its glory days.
"May the reuse of the 'Harimau Malaya' name shine a new light on Malaysian football development in the long run," said Hamidin in a statement today.
FAM had adopted the name "Harimau Malaysia" since February last year.
Hamidin said the "Harimau Malaysia" website would be shut down immediately and the public should refer to FAM's official website for the latest in Malaysian football.
Tunku Ismail won the FAM presidency uncontested. He is also the owner of Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT).
His first act as FAM president was to replace national coach Ong Kim Swee with former JDT coach Mario Gomez.- Mkini
