RM5m MACC allocation will not compromise integrity, says Low

PARLIAMENT | The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will not compromise its integrity despite its Yayasan Prihatin receiving an RM5 million allocation from Putrajaya.
"The contribution would not affect or compromise the integrity and professionalism of MACC because the execution of duty (is) based on the jurisdiction stipulated under MACC Act 2009," said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low in a parliamentary reply dated today to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah).
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had previously announced the RM5 million allocation to the foundation as part of efforts to ensure the welfare of MACC officers.
Lim had raised concerns over the funds and asked if this would compromise the integrity and professionalism of MACC.
"(The) Prihatin Foundation has yet to receive the allocation which is still under the process of (the) Finance Ministry," said Low.
"The fund was chanelled through the government's allocation, which (was) applied and acquired according to financial procedures," he added.
"The investigation carried out on anyone was based on the evidence of fact and case without prejudice against any party," he explained.
According to him, a five-member panel will monitor MACC's procedures.
This includes the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB), the Special Committee on Corruption (SCC) and Complaints Committee (CC) is made through the provision of the law while the Operations Review Panel (ORP) as well as the Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (CCPP). - Mkini
