Arrested: Five unhappy customers who went on restaurant rampage

SIBU: Five people have been arrested over a Feb 26 incident here after a group of men went on a rampage and caused damage to a restaurant.
Video clips of the incident, which happened at 9.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 26), went viral, showing the group smashing plastic chairs in the restaurant.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the five, aged between 18 and 31, were picked up at various locations after the operator of the restaurant lodged a police report.
Four of them are jobless, while the oldest of the lot is a businessman.
According to ACP Stanley, a group of customers went berserk after the restaurant, located on Jalan Pahlawan, served them food that was not what they ordered.
They grabbed plastic chairs and smashed them around, resulting in damage to the restaurant’s refrigerator, ceiling and cashier counter.
All plastic chairs in the restaurant were damaged, with some of them broken into several pieces.
“The owner, who was informed by his staff of the matter at 9.30pm, went to the restaurant and found his property damaged, with losses estimated at RM20,000,” he added.
One of the four workers was also injured on his face after being hit by a suspect using a broom. He has sought treatment at Sibu Hospital.
“After viewing the CCTV recording, we managed to trace the suspects and arrested them,” said ACP Stanley.
A broom and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were also seized.
ACP Stanley said the case was being investigated under Sections 427 (committing mischief that results in damages to property), 147 (rioting), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Penal Code.
The magistrate's court later ordered them to be remanded for two days for investigation.- Star
