NGOs gather at Semenyih mosque to protest insults to Prophet

A group of NGOs staged a protest at a mosque in Semenyih after Friday prayers, pledging to defend Prophet Muhammad with their "last drop of blood".

The peaceful protest dubbed the "Don't Insult Our Prophet Assembly", was attended by some 150 people and held outside the Raja Muda Musa Mosque in Pekan Semenyih.
The NGOs were moved to action after two men were charged with making offensive posts about the Prophet.

Pertubuhan Ahli-Ahli Baian Malaysia (Perbaiah) spokeperson Khairul Faizi Mohd Shatar expressed dismay over the alleged insults.
"I want to remind other ethnic groups that (while) we allow freedom in politics and freedom in worship, they should take care of their own religious affairs.
“We respect other religions, we hope they respect ours too,” he said in a speech to the crowd.
On Feb 26, 22-year-old factory worker A Taneson was charged in the Shah Alam Magistrates' Court for insulting Prophet Muhammad, while 68-year-old Wai Foo Sin was hit with two charges the next day for a similar offence.
"We will not turn this into racial issue, but we want to remind the people in Semenyih, regardless of whether they are a Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu or a free thinker, do not insult the great Prophet Muhammad," said Khairul Faizi.
The rally goers carried posters that read "Do not challenge Muslims" and chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great).

Also present were Umno Youth exco member Afif Farhi Othman and Hulu Langat PAS Youth chief Zukri Ahmad.
The protest was organised by several Islamic NGOs including Persatuan Amanah Perjuangan Amal Insan Bersatu, Muafakat Angkatan Jalinan, Cahata Haluan Amanah Insan, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Melayu Klang, Majlis Penasihat Ayahnda Selangor, Pertubuhan Amal Insan Sejagat 99, Pertubuhan Semenyih Bersatu and Permas Malaysia.
Approximately 10 police officers were at the scene to monitor the situation and the protesters dispersed after half an hour. - Mkini
