PPBM’s Redzuan raps party man over Nurul Izzah’s ‘dictator’ remark

PETALING JAYA: PPBM’s Redzuan Yusof has lashed out at a fellow party man over his defence of Nurul Izzah Anwar’s recent description of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a “former dictator”.

He took to task fellow Supreme Council member Rais Hussin, and questioned his motive in coming to Nurul Izzah’s defence over remarks she made during an interview with Singapore’s The Straits Times.

“For Rais to defend her actions as a ‘Princess of Reformasi’, what is his motive?” asked Redzuan, referring to the title given by PKR supporters to Nurul Izzah, who is the eldest child of Anwar Ibrahim.

Redzuan said Mahathir was democratically elected, adding that decisions in the Cabinet are made by consensus.

“The Cabinet is 100% behind Mahathir,” he told FMT.

“Even DAP can forgive and forget the past to move forward for the future of Malaysia.”

Redzuan said Rais should instead help the ruling party to explain to the public the challenges it is facing, rather than criticising the coalition over the slow pace of reforms.

“He has instead given ammunition to the opposition to attack the government of the day.”

Nurul Izzah, the Permatang Pauh MP, caused a stir among PH leaders after she told The Straits Times in an interview that she was “broken-hearted” having to work with Mahathir, whom she described as a “former dictator who wreaked so much damage”.

Following this, Rais described Nurul Izzah as a “dignified woman who is nonetheless dejected by the slow pace of reforms”.

“If Nurul Izzah can experience a burn out, barely a year after the victorious triumph of Pakatan Harapan on that historic night of May 9, 2018, imagine what every Malaysian can feel when they have to struggle with the syndrome of procrastination?” he wrote recently. - FMT
