KOTA KINABALU: A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted to look for a South Korean tourist who was dragged into the ocean while swimming near a resort in Karambunai here.
Kyeong Young An, 18, was swept out to sea while swimming with two friends on Friday (June 28) evening.
A representative from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Task Force Centre said 18 firemen from the Kota Kinabalu headquarters were deployed to the scene, after a distress call was received at 4.17pm.
The spokesperson said the second day of the SAR operation started at about 7am on Saturday (June 29).
The team comprised 12 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and its Water Rescue Team, eight Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency officers, five police personnel and five representatives from the Civil Defence Department.
