Basketball association chief goes on leave after flag fiasco

The Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) president Lua Choon Hann has taken an indefinite leave of absence following the fiasco over it displaying the wrong Malaysian flag at a recent match.
"Lua felt (above), as the president of Maba, he is ultimately responsible for the organisation and procedures of the association," the association said in a statement today.
It said the leave was pending investigation by authorities over the matter.
Maba deputy president Tan Kang Yong will be assuming the role of acting president.

The flag, with a five-pointed star and 11 red and white stripes, was shown on the stadium TV screen as the national anthem was played together with the Westport Malaysia logo.
The Jalur Gemilang has a 14-pointed star and 14 red and white stripes that represent the nation's 13 states and the Federal Territories.
Maba on Tuesday said they had terminated the services of the contractor and apologised for what they described to be a mistake.
Police have also called in the contractor for questioning.
The incident had sparked an outcry and prompted calls for stern action to be taken, including from Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and his deputy Steven Sim. - Mkini
