A top cycling federation official became the latest VIP to be hauled up by MACC in its dragnet against corrupt practices in the country.
According to a source close to the investigation, the official was picked up by MACC at his house in Malacca on Wednesday evening.
He is being investigated over allegations of abusing his power in the awarding of contracts related to the federation.
"The suspect has allegedly abused his power to award contracts to companies that belonged to his family members.
"There were also contracts allegedly awarded to his own company," the source said.
The source, however, declined to reveal the number of contracts and amount involved, citing that investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, when contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrest.
He said the man is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act for power abuse.
According to Azam, the official was taken to the Putrajaya Magistrate Court on Thursday morning, and MACC has acquired a remand order against him until Feb 2.
Azam declined to furnish further details of the case. - Mkini
