COVID-19 | BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said he had been ordered by the Kota Kinabalu Health Office to undergo quarantine as he was identified as a close contact of Umno supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii, who had tested positive for Covid-19.
Annuar said he had undergone a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test for the disease at Kuala Lumpur Hospital two days ago and the result was negative.
"Today, I have undergone another test by the Kota Kinabalu Health Office, and the results are expected within a day or two," he said in a statement today.
In the meantime, he said he would be confined to a residence in Kota Kinabalu.
For the record, the Health Ministry stipulates that people identified as close contacts of those who test positive for Covid-19 are required to undergo testing and be quarantined at home for 14 days.
They will be taken to a hospital if they develop symptoms during quarantine or if the test result is positive.
On the 13th day of the quarantine, a person under investigation (PUI) will be required to undergo antibody testing for Covid-19, which will be followed up with a second RT-PCR test for confirmation if the result is positive.
If the result is negative, the PUI will be released from quarantine at the 14-day period.
As such, Annuar said he had to cancel his attendance at Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's grand finale ceramah tonight, as well as visits to Pitas and Kota Belud scheduled for tomorrow.
He apologised for the inconvenience but said he would keep in touch with the party machinery and urged them to soldier on.
"I urged all in the BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah machinery to give everything they have in the final 48 hours and continue to invite the people to ubah balik (change back) and reject Warisan, so to protect the people and the land of Sabah," he said.
So far, at least two people are publicly known to have been infected with Covid-19 while participating in the Sabah state election campaign.
Aside from Razlan, the other person is Umno Youth deputy chief Shahril Hamdan.
In addition, Umno's Lumadan candidate Kamarlin Ombi and Sindumin candidate Sani Miasin, as well as Warisan's Sindumin candidate Dr Yusof Yacob, have been ordered to undergo quarantine after coming into contact with Razlan.
In the meantime, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had tested negative for Covid-19 twice.
Sabah MCA, meanwhile, said all its leaders who came into contact with Shahril had tested negative for the disease. - Mkini
