Bersatu senator wants a 'Pribumi' ministry

Bersatu senator Razali Idris wants the government to set up a "Pribumi Ministry" to look after the wellbeing of Malays, Orang Asli, and Sabah, Sarawak bumiputeras.

According to him, currently, bumiputera-related matters are too scattered over various ministries and government departments.

"The time has come for the government to think of the best way to place (bumiputera affairs) under one roof with specific allocations to the pribumi community," he said in a statement today.

The senator said bumiputera issues are the same worldwide, including in Malaysia, and that it revolves around preserving culture, language, native lands, the environment, access to education, poverty, and basic infrastructure and services.

Razali added that bumiputeras are frequently affected by issues such as poverty, and lack of development, as well as the negative impacts of modernity.

"There is no community on earth that won't change. All will go through a process of transformation, whether it is fast or slow.

"However, this transformation will bring various challenges that must be faced," he said.

At present, the government's bumiputera-centric efforts are carried out through agencies such as the Orang Asli Development Department and Majlis Amanah Rakyat. - Mkini
