PETALING JAYA: Civil servants under contract with the public service for 15 years will be employed as permanent staff, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shabudin Yahaya said.
Shabudin said this is part of the government’s efforts to show its gratitude to this group of employees.
“Those who have been in the contract position before or since Oct 23, 2015 will automatically be appointed as permanent staff,” he said in the Dewan Negara today when replying to R Suresh Singh, who wanted to know about the plans to offer permanent positions to contract civil servants.
More than 22,080 contract staff qualify for the appointments.
He said 11,796 contract staff have been employed as permanent staff and the rest will be absorbed between now and 2031.
Shabudin said the government will continue to implement the contractual system as there is still a need for contract staff.
For public service staff under the day-to-day payment system, he said, the government will also consider offering them permanent positions if they have served for more than 15 years. - FMT
