GEORGE TOWN: The O2 Klinik in Ayer Itam will be temporarily closed for disinfection after one of its patients tested positive for Covid-19.
The clinic said through contact tracing, it discovered that the patient had visited its premises in Ayer Itam on Sept 1 for treatment.
The treatment, however, was for diarrhoea and the patient did not show any symptoms of Covid-19 such as fever, running nose or coughing. The patient later went to Lam Wah Ee Hospital.
In a statement Monday (Sept 7), the clinic said that during the visit, four nurses and several doctors were on duty and all of them followed the standard operating procedure (SOP) by wearing face masks, conducted two-hourly surface disinfection, and ensured social distancing.
“In accordance with Health Ministry guidelines, patients and medical personnel who were exposed were sent for screening and close monitoring," the clinic said.
Immediate disinfection of the entire clinic was also conducted in accordance with Health Ministry guidelines, it added.
The clinic also said that the patient did not visit other 02 branches in Penang.
On Sept 6, the 89-year-old patient became the latest person in the state to contract the virus.
After his visit to Lam Wah Ee Hospital, where he was initially admitted to the accident and emergency (A&E) unit for acute gastroenteritis on Saturday (Sept 5), he was then transferred to the Penang Hospital. - Star
