Father of boy driving trailer remanded

SEREMBAN: The father of an 11-year-old boy who drove a trailer is being remanded for two days to facilitate investigation into the case.
Seremban district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Said Ibrahim told Bernama that the 39-year-old man was arrested in Rantau yesterday after a video recording of the boy driving a Hino trailer went viral on social media.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abusing, abandoning, neglecting or exposing a child in a manner that is likely to cause him or her to physical or emotional injury.
Earlier today, Harian Metro quoted Said as confirming that the incident occurred in Rantau here about 4.41pm yesterday.
There was a 1.18-minute recording of the child driving the Hino trailer that was viralled, he said.
"The incident occurred in Rantau, Seremban, and a police report was received on the viral video because the child's father was negligent in allowing an underaged child to drive a trailer," he told Harian Metro here today.
The incident is the second to have surfaced within two days involving minors caught on camera driving vehicles.
Yesterday, there was another 43-second viral video of a man who allowed his nine-year-old son to drive his Proton Saga in Kampung Bongek, Rembau.
Rembau district police chief Deputy Superintendent Anuat Bakri Abdul Salam had said yesterday that the father in the first case had been issued with summons under Section 111 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police successfully traced the car and the child in the first video and investigations found that the boy had driven the car in Kampung Bongek without the knowledge and permission of his 47-year-old father.
An investigation paper was also opened under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect. - NST
