Health DG: Two more new Covid-19 cases linked to Tawar cluster detected during enhanced MCO in Aman Jaya

PUTRAJAYA: The enhanced movement control order (MCO) in Aman Jaya, Kedah has managed to uncover two more Covid-19 cases related to the Tawar cluster.
The two cases were among Thursday’s (Sept 3) three new infections linked to the cluster, announced by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The cluster has now 78 confirmed cases, spread in both Kedah and Penang.
Three of the confirmed cases were detected from the Aman Jaya enhanced MCO, which is under administrative lockdown from Aug 27 to Sept 10.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry has managed to screen 12,903 residents in three affected zones (Kenanga, Mawar and Melur).
“A total of 12,867 people have tested negative for Covid-19 while 33 more are still waiting for their results,” he said in a statement.
The ministry is still looking to screen over 9,000 more residents in the enhanced MCO area.
The Tawar cluster currently has 26 active cases, with 50 already being discharged.
Two patients under the cluster have died.
The Tawar cluster’s index case (patient 9,113) is a 53-year-old who tested positive for the virus on Aug 12.
The man had a history of attending a funeral gathering on July 31 and Aug 1 which was attended by family members.
Meanwhile, another new case was also reported in Kedah, and is linked to the Telaga cluster.
Dr Noor Hisham said the cluster now has seven confirmed cases and the ministry has so far screened 2,089 individuals in Kedah and Penang.
The Telaga cluster was first identified at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar involving healthcare workers on Aug 30.
Dr Noor Hisham also said two new cases under the Bunga cluster have been reported, bringing its total to six.
The cluster is linked to a ship’s crew in Port Dickson aboard a vessel that has travelled to a port in Singapore.
As of Sept 3, there are 13 active clusters in the country. - Star
