Johor to discuss with Putrajaya on plight of college's S'pore students

Johor will discuss with the federal government to consider allowing students of Malborough College Malaysia in Iskandar Puteri who are staying in Singapore to cross the Causeway daily so they would be able to continue their studies there.

Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad (above) said this followed a request by the private college concerned for the state government to assist the affected students.

He said he would bring up the matter with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I received a letter from the college seeking us (state government) to find ways so that its 800 to 900 students could commute daily across the Causeway to return to school and continue with their studies.

“The college also hinted at problems they are facing and the possibility of having to close because it could not conduct business as usual," he said when speaking at the Johor Media Club (KMJ) annual meeting last night.

Also present were state Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee chairperson Mazlan Bujang and KMJ president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak.

Hasni said it would be a great loss if the college was to close.

On another matter, he expressed his appreciation to media members for channelling information to the public, especially on the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said media practitioners played a role in shaping the thinking of the masses with the dissemination of accurate news and information.
