COVID-19 | The Kelantan Health Department has revealed that the one Covid-19 case in the state is an individual who recently visited Kota Kinabalu and Kundasang in Sabah.
This makes the patient the third Covid-19 case from Sabah to be imported into Peninsular Malaysia following a spike in cases in the East Malaysian state this month.
This is Kelantan’s first case since July 30.
Speaking to the media in Kota Bahru today, department director Dr Zaini Hussin shared that the patient was a 49-year-old Malaysian male who had travelled to Kota Kinabalu and Kundasang for a holiday from Sept 19 to 22.
He tested positive for the virus when screened at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
“The case had no symptoms and was brought into Hospital Tumpat on Sept 23 (yesterday),” Zaini said.
He added that 48 close contacts - including family members, friends, colleagues and airplane passengers - had been identified.
“These (close) contacts are from Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.
“The Kota Bharu Health Office is investigating the cause of infection and controlling the situation,” he said.
Zaini assured that Covid-19 was under control in the state.
As of Sept 24, he said Kelantan had recorded 161 cases and three deaths from the virus.
Previously, Umno Youth deputy chief Shahril Hamdan and a UOB Bank staff from its Kepong, Kuala Lumpur branch tested positive for Covid-19 after recent trips to Sabah.
Sabah had 645 active cases and seven active infection clusters as of Sept 23. - Mkini
