Let’s win the election first, then talk about CM candidate, Zahid tells allies

Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the opposition should not be over confident.
KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional has cautioned its allies against being overconfident of winning the Sabah state election.
The coalition’s chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the opposition should not get ahead of themselves and think of their chief minister candidate even before polling day.
“Don’t be overconfident in this matter… don’t fall into the trap laid by our political foes,” he told reporters after a ceramah in Putatan near here tonight.
“If we are overconfident, the people can see it and reject us. The bottom line is when we cross the line, which means we have at least 37 seats (simple majority) then we have the right to form the new state government.”
he said once the election was over and they had won, they could discuss the issue of who should be chief minister.
He was commenting on Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Mohamed Azmin Ali’s remarks earlier today that Sabah PPBM chief Hajiji Noor should be given the chance to become the state’s chief minister if the coalition and party managed to win the election.
Earlier in his ceramah, the Umno president said the party which won the most seats in the polls deserved the right to have its pick of chief minister from among its victorious candidates.
Meanwhile, Zahid conceded it would be an uphill battle for all of BN’s 41 candidates in the coming election.
“We know our candidates are underdogs. We also know we are moving without much funds and facilities because we are not the government, only part of the Perikatan Nasional government.
“We know all our shortcomings but it does not make our spirit weak but instead it makes us stronger to face it… we consider all these challenges as a test,” he said.
Zahid said he was confident BN’s supporters and the people in general missed the coalition.
“God willing, the BN candidates in Sabah will not disappoint the people.” - FMT
