SABAH POLLS | Perikatan Nasional (PN)-Bersatu's Limus Jury was confident of retaining the Kuala Penyu state seat despite accusations by his opponents that he should be rejected for his defection.
Speaking to reporters at the Kuala Penyu town today, Limus (above) said he had explained to his supporters that he left Upko in June to respect his constituents' mandate that was given to BN during the 2018 elections.
"It was not me who quit. We were with BN before, it was Upko that left. I also told them (my supporters) that there was no development during the 26-month Warisan tenure as government," he said.
Limus won the Kuala Penyu seat in 2013 and 2018 on a BN-Upko ticket. Following the 2018 elections, Upko left BN to form a government with Warisan.
In June, Limus and Sugut lawmaker James Ratib both quit Upko to support PN. James won his seat in 2018 on a BN-Umno ticket.
The duo was later part of 14 lawmakers who pledged allegiance to former chief minister Musa Aman, who attempted to form a new state government in late July but failed.
Of the 14, 10 - including Limus and James - are seeking re-election, which has become fodder for the ruling Warisan Plus coalition, who has urged voters to reject "political frogs".
When asked on this, Limus said that he was unaffected by opposition rhetoric.
"The voters are still loyal to me," he said, adding that voters understood why he had to switch camps.
"Yes, they understood. The Warisan government did not bring development."
Kuala Penyu is one half of the state seats under the Beaufort parliamentary seat, which is a two-hour drive south from Kota Kinabalu. - Mkini
