PRAI: The mystery behind the whereabouts of a man, whose motorcycle was found abandoned along the Penang Bridge, was solved when his body was fished out of the sea today.
The 57-year-old man from Lunas, Kedah, had failed to return home since leaving on Tuesday, sparking concern among his family members.
His son had found his father's motorcycle abandoned at KM4.0 along the Penang Bridge headed towards Prai, but figured his father had left the bike there after it broke down.
The son then lodged a missing person's report at the Prai police station.
However, police today were notified of the discovery of a body floating in Penang waters at KM7.2, which was then brought the marine base in Batu Uban.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said check of the man's wallet had identification documents which matched details of the missing person's report lodged.
"A post mortem conducted on the remains found that the victim died of drowning. Police did not find any external injuries or any criminal element," he added, adding that the victim could have taken his own life due to financial problems. - NST
