Muhyiddin: AG affirms I'm still PM, palace hasn't summoned me

Muhyiddin Yassin today said attorney-general has affirmed that he was still the prime minister and has yet to be summoned to the palace.

Speaking at a rally in Tambunan, Muhyiddin if he was legally no longer the prime minister, he was sure he would be summoned to face the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin promised that should he no longer qualify the prime minister, he has two options - either step down or recommend that the Agong dissolve Parliament.

"If the Agong dissolves Parliament, then Anwar (Ibrahim) will just be a PM-in-waiting," he said.

On Wednesday, Anwar claimed that Muhyiddin no longer enjoyed majority support of the MPs and thus the latter's government had collapsed.

Anwar claimed that he had secured majority support but stopped short of naming his list of supporters pending an audience with the Agong, who is currently receiving medical treatment.

Anwar's claim was reinforced by a statement from Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who acknowledged that the former now had the support of "many" Umno MPs.

Today marked the first time Muhyiddin had publicly addressed Anwar's claim.

Muhyiddin pointed out that there are doubts since the former has the support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and some Umno leaders.

"I am suspicious. Is (Anwar's claim) real or was it just a political ploy... We will abide by the constitution," he said, while stressing the constitutionally, he was still the prime minister.

Muhyiddin assured listeners that he was not power crazy and his priority now was to resolve problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said he doesn't mind if he eventually becomes the shortest-lived prime minister.

"I think I have done my job," he said. - Mkini
