Muhyiddin moots Sabah Bersatu chief as CM if partners agree

Malaysiakini

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has mooted Sabah Bersatu chief Hajiji Mohd Noor as a possible Sabah chief ministerial candidate if the state opposition coalition wins.
However, Muhyiddin qualified his statement by saying that this would also require agreement from Bersatu's allies.
"Who knows, if our partners in PN and also BN agree, the best we can offer as the candidate for Sabah chief minister is none other than Hajiji," he said to cheers from the crowd in Tuaran, which is 30km away from state capital Kota Kinabalu.
Muhyiddin made an appearance in Tuaran to support Hajiji, who was being nominated as the Sulaman candidate.
Sulaman is one of three state seats in the Tuaran federal constituency. The other state seats are Kiulu and Tamparuli.
Hajiji, who has represented Sulaman since 2004, is contesting under the PN banner.
Hajiji, when asked about Muhyiddin endorsing him as a chief ministerial candidate, assured that Bersatu's partners will be consulted.
"I was not formally informed but whatever it is, we will resolve it when the time comes with Umno-BN, PBS, and Perikatan Nasional," he said.
Apart from Bersatu, STAR, and SAPP are also contesting under the PN logo.
Meanwhile, Umno, PBRS, and MCA are contesting under the BN logo.
Both PN and BN are allied with PBS which is contesting under its own logo.
The parties have agreed to form the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah ruling coalition if they can win the Sabah election.
On BN's side, their potential chief ministerial candidate is Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, who is contesting the newly-created Lamag state seat.
Bung and Hajiji's chances to become chief minister will depend on who can win more seats in the Sabah election.
Umno is contesting is 31 seats while Bersatu is contesting 19 seats.
The nomination process concluded this morning and polling will take place on Sept 26. - Mkini
