SABAH POLLS | PAS is "giving way" to their allies in order to avoid clashes in the Sabah state election, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Meanwhile, PAS strategist Zuhdi Marzuki said the party will still be "contesting" the election through Umno and Bersatu.
PAS has not been allocated any seats in the Sabah election by either Perikatan Nasional or BN and was not invited to any of the events to name the candidates.
It was previously eyeing to contest in 10 seats in the state polls.
In a statement, Hadi said PAS respected the decision not to allocate them any seats.
"PAS respects the stand of friends in Sabah who wish to contest in all 73 seats.
"In this matter, PAS takes the position of giving way to friends to ensure straight fights can be highlighted in the Sabah election, to protect cooperation that has been established and taking into account future political implications," he said in a statement.
He added that the party's priority was to prepare for the 15th general election, besides a commitment to strengthen Muafakat Nasional and PN.
He assured that PAS machinery will still be campaigning on the ground as needed.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement posted on Harakah Daily, Zuhdi said that it would "definitely be sad" if PAS is not given an opportunity to contest in Sabah.
"However, whether PAS is given a seat or not, PAS will still be contesting.
"Candidates named by Umno, Bersatu, and other allies for the good of the ummah are actually also representing PAS," he said. - Mkini
