Faced with criticism and mockery, Kedah Menteri Besar has defended his decision to appoint PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin to a government-linked company (GLC) in the state.
Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said Khairil was not appointed because of his position in the party but because of his expertise that would have gone to waste if not given a proper place.
“I confirm Khairil Nizam Khirudin (photo, below) has been appointed, and I wish to introduce his expertise in safety. He is an oil and gas engineer.
“I’ve been made to understand that there are only five in Malaysia who have Khairil’s expertise,” he told a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman today, which had been broadcasted live through Facebook.
During Pakatan Harapan administration, PAS leaders were among those that condemned the federal government for making political appointments in GLCs.
However, Harapan had countered that the appointments were mainly not for GLCs but statutory bodies. For GLC posts, most of the appointees are professionals.
This changed under Perikatan Nasional rule where MPs were appointed to the boards of various GLCs.
Meanwhile, at the same conference, Sanusi said Khairil’s appointment is only the beginning of more PAS leaders being brought into the administration.
The Jeneri assemblyperson said many outstanding and talented people in PAS will soon be introduced to the public and make contributions to the state government.
He said he needs some time before making the appointments.
“It would be a loss if we don’t give a proper place to such outstanding people just because they hold a party position,” he said.
According to Sanusi, Khairil was appointed as a member of Bina Darulaman Berhad board of directors on Sept 6. - Mkini
