PKR has suspended Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok’s membership pending a Kota Kinabalu court decision on his alleged assault against then PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli in 2018.
The suspension letter issued by party disciplinary board chairperson Ahmad Kasim stated that the suspension will take effect beginning today under Article 41.6 of the PKR constitution.
“Article 41.6: The Central Leadership Committee (MPP) has the right to suspend the membership of any member or bar the member from holding office temporarily until a decision is proposed by the disciplinary board.
“The disciplinary board will table its proposal to the MPP once the court has made its verdict,” the letter read.
Daing was recently appointed as coordinator for the Lembah Jaya state constituency in Selangor.
In November 2018, Rafizi claimed to have been assaulted by a man while overseeing party polls in Keningau, Sabah.
However, Rafizi managed to escape injury and lodged a police report over the incident.
Daing reportedly refused to comment on the accusation against him but gave his statement at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters on Nov 6, 2018.
Meanwhile, when contacted, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution confirmed the suspension.
“Yes,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini to confirm the suspension.
Malaysiakini is also contacting Daing for a response. - Mkini
